Pre-screening

Pre-screening is a preliminary process of evaluating the qualifications, skills, and capabilities of the applicants by the employers/recruiters during the recruitment process. This process is meant to filter the right candidates from the many whose profile aligns with the expectations of the organization compared to the others. After submitting applications, the candidates will undergo pre-screening by typically providing answers to the questions or assignments related to the position they’re applying for. Recruiters will assess their answers to determine whether their expertise is ideal for the open position. Selected candidates are moved to the interview stage, and the rest are eliminated from the recruitment process.

Use cases:

Pre-screening is an integral part of recruitment since it draws the line between suitable and not-suitable candidates. While organizations may allow all applications to undergo pre-screening, only the ideal candidates receive interview opportunities. Pre-screening allows recruiters to assess the basic qualifications, evaluate their expertise in the chosen area, and determine their suitability for the position. This is also an opportunity for recruiters to identify the potential red flags, such as career breaks or application discrepancies so that effective decisions can be made at the earliest stages. Aside from the obvious use cases, setting up a seamless pre-screening process can considerably enhance candidate experience and thus advance the employer brand.
